I read this article about bra color status update going viral on Facebook on Thursday and as soon as I logged in on Friday morning and saw the status updates by my friends I knew what they were talking about. But I, somehow, was quite taken aback to see that so many people on my friends list were actually revealing their bra color on a social network. Really??!! So tomorrow if they ask them to update their status with their size, would they start doing that too? God forbid something worse goes viral.
Did they think the guys would never find out? Did they they really think that the color would raise thoughts about "breast cancer"?! The only thing that I think it would raise thoughts about would be the first word. When you hear a girl saying "I am wearing a red bra today", what do you think of ? No really! And for those who did update your status, did it really add to your knowledge about breast cancer?
It is indeed remarkable to see how we have started succumbing to social pressure. Have we stopped thinking for ourselves? Declaring your bra color to friends, colleagues and acquaintances is like announcing the same in a party or a class or a meeting at work. Indeed it is the age of information, you don't even have to go hunting to find out unnecessary things. They get presented to you in a platter!
Who really started it? One of my friend's thought : Victoria's Secret trying to conduct a survey on what colors are popular!
Anyway, at the end of the day I derived some humor out of the comments made by the guys:
One said "Hairy"
Someone said "Next what? Prostrate Cancer?"
Someone else actually started updating his status with real facts about breast cancer. Sensible!
Though I love Facebook and social networks, it is indeed interesting to see how we have evolved with them.
Social Networks made us stalk people, made our personal lives public, made us conscious of ourselves in pictures since someone might upload and tag you, and now they even made us reveal details of our lingerie. Have to wait and watch what they make us do next!
